Is it 'normal' to feel tired?

Is it 'normal' to feel tired?

Did you know that it’s not normal to be tired all the time?

Maybe that’s what you’ve been told by your health professional or have friends are suffering the same needless energy slumps so it’s just accepted as a way of life.

But it’s not normal to wake up tired, to flag in the afternoon and be worn out in the evening.

What is accepted as normal to most people is actually abnormal and you don’t have to put up with sore knees or menopausal weight gain either.

My favourite misconception is: "Ever since I had my baby, I’ve carried extra weight around my middle. I just can’t shift this baby weight." I ask "When did you have your baby?"

The reply is "17 years ago."

Believe me, no-one has to keep their baby weight for that long. Sure, it can take a while for the body to readjust but it shouldn’t take more than 12 months.

We tell ourselves we’re supposed to suffer in the name of normality but your body isn’t supposed to hurt or malfunction. If it’s being well cared for, it runs like a beautiful machine and the impact that has on us psychologically and physically is profound.

Just think, for every 5kg you gain, it’s equivalent to an extra 20kg in each knee and hip. Can you imagine that weight pressing on your joints every day? You just have to pick up a 10kg dumbbell to realise what your body goes through by carrying that extra baggage every day.

Weight is one of the main causes of abnormal fatigue but there’s a range of factors including inflammation, poor gut health, drinking too much coffee and alcohol, not sleeping properly or eating and sleeping at the wrong time. Most people have at least six behaviours that are making them feel tired which is why so many people on Aston RX feel so much better after a week on the program.

They thought it was their destiny to suffer. Gaining weight tends to come with a whole lot of other problems but fatigue is one of the worst because most people think that more fuel (more food) will boost their energy when it’s the worst thing they can do.

That’s a vicious cycle that never gives the body time to function as it should which certainly is not in a state of constant fatigue.
